Outreach (in Business)
Definition
In business, outreach is the practice of proactively contacting prospects, partners, journalists, or website owners — by email, phone, social, or in person — to start a conversation that leads to a sale, backlink, partnership, or other business outcome.
Why it matters
Inbound marketing waits for buyers to find you; outreach goes to them. For B2B teams with a defined ideal customer profile, outreach is often the fastest path to pipeline because it lets you pick exact accounts instead of hoping they search. It also powers work that inbound can’t reach on its own — earning backlinks from relevant publishers, booking podcast placements, recruiting partners, and reviving dormant deals.
